EVALUATION OF RIPASA SCORE FOR ACUTE APPENDICITIS: A NEW DIAGNOSTIC SCORING SYSTEM
Abstract
INTRODUCTION:
Acute appendicitis is the most common cause of 'acute
abdomen' in young adults and most common general surgical
emergency. The incidence is 1.5-1.9 per 1,000 in the male and
female population and is approximately 1.4 times greater in
(1) men than in women. The diagnosis of acute appendicitis
remains essentially clinical, requiring a mixture of history,
observation & clinical knowledge. To increase the diagnostic
a c c u r a c y i n a c u t e a p p e n d i c i t i s h a v e i n c l u d e d
ultrasonography, computed tomogram (CT) and laparoscopy
also. However, these modalities are costly and may not be
available when they are required.
