NUTRITION STATUS AND NUTRIENT INTAKE OF DENOVO NAFLD PATIENTS
Abstract
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one type of fatty liver which occurs when fat is deposited
(steatosis) in the liver . It is a common and potential serious complication in the patient, who does not
abuse or consume little to no alcohol. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the most extreme form of NAFLD. It is related to
insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome and may respond to treatment originally developed for other insulin-resistant
states (e.g.: Diabetes mellitus type2) such as weight loss, metformin , and thiazolidinediones. It is marked by liver inammation,
which might progress to scarring and irreversible damage. This damage is similar to the damage caused by heavy alcohol use.
